COURSES

The great attraction of going on a painting course is that it gives you the opportunity to paint without the usual everyday distractions and to be able to concentrate on developing your artistic abilities.  I've spent more than 50 years experiencing the highs and lows associated with painting and I realise that will never be enough time to learn everything that I'd like to know but my aim as a teacher is that students should have an enjoyable time and that I can come come up with new ideas, offer encouragement and challenges alike and that at the end of the course you feel that you have achieved something.

STAITHES ART SCHOOL   18th - 21st May, 2017

Staithes on the North Yorkshire coast is an old unspoilt and still active fishing village, located between the steep sides of Staithes Beck and Staithes Art School is located right in the centre.  There is a whole variety of painting subjects within a short walking distance and for the more energetic some extra-ordinary vantage points from the surrounding cliffs.  We work outside as much as possible and concentrate on developing the sketching and painting skills that lead to more painterly work rather than copying photographs.  If the weather is unhelpful there's an excellent studio back at base.  For more information on this 3 day course, go to - www.staithesgallery.co.uk or contact them via tel 01947-841840, or email - al@staithesgallery.co.uk  Early booking is recommended.

      DEDHAM HALL 8th - 15th July, 2017

This is a week long course based in 'Constable Country' on the borders of Essex and Suffolk.  Subject matter ranges from the landscape of Dedham Vale and the Stour Valley, to nearby marshes, creeks, rivers and shorelines, whilst many students find interesting possibilities closer to home in the garden and Dedham village itself.  Again, painting en plein air is encouraged and there is a big studio to work in back at base if the weather is unhelpful, or for students who want to make the most of their time at Dedham, in the early morning or burning the midnight oil.  This is always a very popular week and again early reservations are recommended.  Contact Wendy or Jim on 01206-323027 or via email at sarton@dedhamhall.demon.co.uk
