David Howell PPRSMA

I don’t do a lot of teaching, because normally I’m too busy keeping up with gallery demands and commissions but I do enjoy working with a group of enthusiastic painters and I will be back at Dedham Hall and Staithes Art School in 2019. These courses are invariably over-subsrcibed well ahead of the scheduled dates and early reservations are a must.  If there are no spaces left, you might have to go on the waiting list.  As far as teaching goes, I’m happy to deal with all the main media and my approach to teaching is to try and work with everyone individually, as well as heading up group discussions and demonstrating when required.  We work outside as much as possible and my aim is that everyone should both enjoy themselves and feel that they have made progress with their painting.

‘Woodbridge, Suffolk’  W/col 33 x 51 cm

Dedham is ideally situated on the Essex and Suffolk border with easy access to rivers and creeks, boatyards and general East Anglian landscape.  Favourite painting spots include Pin Mill with its Thames barges as well as places like Woodbridge and of course Dedham Vale where Constable painted and worked.  Dedham Hall has a big studio as a base and Wendy & Jim are great hosts.  This course is always very popular, so book early.

STAITHES ART SCHOOL May 16th - 19th 2019

Staithes Beck Oil on board 20 x 30 cm

Staithes is an ideal location for painters.  Whichever direction you head in, there’s invariably something interesting to paint within a few minutes walk and the village retains its character as a working fishing village without the encroachment of marinas and plastic boats.  There’s a big studio to work in if it’s wet but the virtually traffic free location is ideal for en plein air painters.  For more information :- www.staithesgallery.co.uk or phone contact is 01947-841840
